News on pet travel to Switzerland: effective immediately, pets traveling to Switzerland from countries with a high incidence of rabies no longer require an import permit if they are traveling cargo.

  1. I’m traveling by air to Switzerland for 2 or 3 months and bringing my pet dog.
What are the pet health documents required by the U.S. and Switzerland?
Thank you for your courtesy and prompt response.

RESPONSE: It depends on what country you are entering Switzerland from. Certainly, your pet will need to be micro chipped with a 15 digit ISO microchip, then vaccinated for rabies. The vaccination must take place at least 21 days prior to travel. Within 10 days of travel, your veterinarian will complete the veterinary certificate for Switzerland for endorsement from the USDA. If you are entering Switzerland from a country with a high incidence of rabies, you will need a Blood Titer Test 3 months in advance. 2. In December we are moving to Costa Rica and are taking our two sixty pound dogs . We are flying from Houston Texas. How much would this cost
    RESPONSE
Only the airline can quote you the cost. You must call their reservations number to make a booking for the pets to travel as checked baggage and they will quote you the cost at that time.
