Traveling Worldwide with your pet — 615 Comments

  1. I will be traveling with my 7 yr old king charles from the US to Bahrain. This flight involves 13+ hours of flight and I would not feel comfortable with him in cargo. He is 24 lbs and I’m afraid he may be too large to be allowed in cabin. What can I do? Is it really safe to have your pet in cargo for that long? Is there any other alternative so that he can fly in cabin with me? Can I purchase a seat for him?
    RESPONSE
There is really no alterntive to having your pet travel as checked baggage in the cargo hold. I do not know of any airline that will allow you to purchase a seat for your pet and at 24 lbs the pet exceeds the weight standard for all airlines. The problem is also the height of the pet which generally must be 10 inches or less to fit under the seat.

Hundreds of pets fly in the cargo hold each day and the indicdence of harm coming to healthy pets is very small.

If you need the complete instructions and the necessary forms for taking a pet into Bahrain go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passpots – Immigration Info. You can also see the required IATA/SPHIS compliant pet crates in that same online store.

What country are you traveling to? You may not need any signature other than that of the veterinarian.

  4. I am relocating to Ireland, I am aware of all the restrictions, blood tests etc… Now I am trying to fly with the cat in the cabin. I can’t fly into the UK or Ireland. Can I fly to Paris or Madrid with all the Certificates and endorsemnts and continue on to Ireland within 24 hours…
Also, is the certificate valid for more than two months or do I have to do it within ten days….?

    RESPONSE
It really does not matter which country you fly into the UK from it still must enter as manifested cargo. The options are to fly into France and then take a ferry into the UK or the chunnel.

The blood titer test is good forever as long as the rabies vaccination does not expire. The EU form 998 should be completed as near entry into the UK as possible. 21 days is okay but not much longer. Remember the ticks and tapeworms that must be done 24 – 48 hours prior to entry.

  5. We are traveling from the US to the UK with a cat, we should be leaving in 3-4 months. The UK requires shots 6 mos prior to leaving. Other EU countries are more lenient. Has anyone ever flown into France or Germany, then taken a train in to the UK? Would that avoid the strict rules for travel from the US to UK.
    RESPONSE
It will not change anything to go into another EU country. Your cat must have a blood titer test six months in advance of arrival in the UK or it will go into quarantine for the remainder of the six month period.

If you would like the complete rules and all of the necessary forms for taking a pet cat into the UK go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info and scroll down to the UK.

  6. I’ll be moving from South Korea back to the US at the end of August. I have a dwarf hamster in a small cage that I would love to take with me, and preferably in my lap and not in cargo storage. I have found lots of information about traveling with your dogs and cats, but not hamsters. Can you please direct me to the right sources? Can he be my hand-luggage or personal item?

    Thanks!
    Brittany
    RESPONSE
The airlines do not have published rules that we can find on taking hamsters in the cabin of the aircraft. However, other have reported to us that they were able to do so as long as the hamnster was in a plastic approved pet crate under the seat in front of them.

It is something you will have to discuss with the airline. There is no problem bringing the hamster into the United States.

  9. JAL only take pet as checked luggage. So I guess I need to apply for transit permit.

    RESPONSE
Is your pet just changing planes or are you staying over in Japan. Will you go through customs and immigration in Japan?

  10. Hi,
Myself and my boyfriend are moving to Vancouver Canada from Ireland in December and want to bring our Lab he’ll be 2yrs by then.
Just wondering has anyone done this trip before and have any advice for us? will this be an easy transition? Will he be quarantined?

    Thanks:)

  11. I am moving from Atlanta to Spain next year, but am terrified of how to bring my 3-year-old labrador. Is that too long of a flight for a dog? I’m also worried about the quarantine which I’ve heard so much about but it looks like if I take the proper steps in terms of vaccinations, and rabies blood work well enough in advance, that she won’t need to be quarantined. . is that correct? If not, I’ll have to consider leaving her with a family member b/c she won’t be able to take the stress of a 6 month quarantine.

  12. I am traveling from Vietnam to United States. I have not been able to find a good route to take my cat with me. The one that my travel agent found is via Seoul with a 12 hour layover. VN airline does not take pets so that limit the choices I have. One other option is via NRT..anyone know if I can take a pet with me transiting NRT? The pet will be chipped and with all proper documents.
    RESPONSE
As long as your pet does not go through customs then nothing is required to transit Japan. If however the pet is going to change airlines in Japan and is traveling as checked baggage then a transit permit is required
    Jerry

  13. HELLO,

I will be traveling with my 2 dogs from Bahrain to the US in a few weeks with a stop in Paris. (I will be changing airlines.) They will be traveling with the baggage, so I know I have to claim the dogs from the first airline and re-check them with the second. My question is if I’m not leaving the airport at all and they will be claimed and checked again do I need a EU pet passport? Or any other documentation? Thank you for your help?

    RESPONSE
Unless you can get the airlien transfer the pet for you then you will go thru customs after picking up your pet and therefore will enter France with him. In this case you will need the pet passport for France. If you need the complete instructions and necessary forms for taking a pet into France you can go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info and scroll down to France
    Jerry

  14. Hi, Thank you for your answer earlier. Unfortunately after all it looks like I would NOT be able to take my 13yo miniature dachshund Daisy for the trip with me, because -according to America Airlines- FRANCE doesn’t accept pets traveling in the cabin, and I’m not going to have this “little old lady” travel in the cargo area for 9 hours. Just trying to confirm it with you too, is that true about France??
    RESPONSE
That is incorrect – France has no regulation against pets arriving in the cabin of the aircraft and lots of people take them that way every day. Perhps Ameriican does not accept them but other airlines do.

  15. I hope to acquire a 8-9 week old puppy in France and bring him home to the US. Are there any age restrictions for leaving France with a puppy this young?
    RESPONSE
I am not aware of any requirements of the French Government regarding the issue. Normally the US wants pets to be vaccinated for rabies but in the case of puppies that are too young to be vaccinated they will make an exception.

You will need a certificate of good health signed by a veterinarian in France – it must be in English.

If you need the instructions and the health certificate for the United States go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info and scroll down the US. They can be mailed to you.

  16. Thanks again Jerry, I ordered the rental scanner today, fingers crossed the entire process will be smooth. 🙂

  17. Hi! I’m traveling with two cats from Japan to America. I have four questions…

    1. What forms do I need for travel from Japan to America?
    2. I have a connecting flight with my pets in Chicago. What happens to my pets then? Do I pick them up somewhere?
    3. The litter box… Throughout my trip, when will my cats be able to use it?
    4. Is there a quarantine for pets entering the US? Can I just take them home as soon as I arrive at my final destination in the US?
    RESPONSE
To enter the US from Japan you only ned a certificate of good health.
If you are on the same airline all of the way your cat will be transferred to the next flight. If you are changing airlines then you will pick your cat up at baggage claim in Chicago and re-check it on the final flight.
There are no facilities for a liter box. You want to put a product like Dry Fur in the bottom of the IATA compliant pet crate.
The US does not quarantine healthy pets and you will pick up your pet immediately on arrival.

If you need the instructions and health certificate for bringing your cat into the US go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info and scroll down to the United States. We can email it to you.

  18. I’m planning to travel with our 13 yo miniature dachshund Daisy from the US to Hungary, only for a week.(sudden decision to take her with me to get her tooth cleaned over there for 20X less, than here in the US)
Besides the microchip and the proper vet and EU998 documents, do I have to have the blood -titre- test as well for her? Am I going to need any tests before entering the US on the way back?? After the long flight from Dallas to Paris, is there any area at the airport in France (Paris,de Gaulle) where I can take her to “go”?
(The trip is in 25 days, wouldn’t it be too late to do the blood test?) And the last quoestion is: Do you know, my connecting Hungarian airline MALEV allows pets aboard in the carrier?
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
    RESPONSE
Neither France nor Hungary require the blood titer test for pets arriving from the United States. If you wish to take the pet out for a walk in France you will need the EU form 998 for France as well as another one for Hungary – they are different.

Malev Airlines does allow pets in the cabin if they are small enough on flights within Europe.
If you need the instructions or the EU form 998 for either country they are available at http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info.

  20. Hi,
Myself and my husband are currently living in South Korea with our gorgeous schnauzer that we adopted from a rescue home here. Next year we will be moving back to the UK and I am starting to look into how to transfer her back with the least amount of distress. From my own research it seems that South Korea is listed as a high risk rabies country by the UK (which seems crazy to me..) and it looks like we will have to put her in quarantine for 6 whole months. Is there any way round this??? Ie taking her to another country first for a period of time and then back to the UK? If there is no way round it is it possible or likely that the restrictions on South Korea would be relaxed any time soon? Any help you could give would be apprectiated as I am very upset at the thought of 6months in quarantine…
    RESPONSE
Korea is not a part of the pet scheme that allows pets to enter the UK without quarantine of six months. You could take the pet to another EU country if you have a blood titer test done three months in advance of travel with no quarantine. If the pet resides in another EU country for six months and if its rabies vaccinations are kept current it can then enter the UK wihout quarantine.

There are additional rules. You can find the pet passport information and all of the necessary forms for taking a pet into the UK or any other country by going to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then clicking on Pet Passports – Immigration Info

  21. Please enlighten me on traveling with a 4mos old Golden Retriever pup from Ohio to Manila, with transit flight at Shanghai, via Continental Airlines. It was mentioned to me that there is still a need for a 7-day quarantine of the pup at Shanghai airport, even if it is just a stop over flight. Or is it more advisable that my pup travel alone via cargo without passing through China from Ohio to Manila? Thank you.
    RESPONSE
It is possible to avoid quarantine in Shanghai if you arrange for a licensed pet transport agent to meet the incoming flight and hold the pet in quarantine until it is placed on the next flight. If the pet is merely moving from one airplane to another airplane in Shanghai on the SAME airline then this will not be necessary.

Or, the pet can travel directly from the US to the Philippines with the proper documents and no quarantine.

For the complete rules and necessary forms for taking a pet into the Philippines go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info.

  22. Hi,

As previously mentioned, we have a layover in Sao-Paulo on our way to Buenos Aires.
Now we have to choose an airline for the internal flight from SAO to BUE and I was wondering if you recommend either TAM or Aerolinas Argentinas for pet transportation.

    THANKS!
    RESPONSE
I am sorry but we do not recommend airlines although I am a little more familiar with Aerolinas Argentinas.

If you need the pet policy for either airline you can go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Airline Rules.

  23. We are returning from living in China (Shenzhen) to the United States (Seattle, WA) and I am wondering which airlines are recommended for transporting our large dog. Also, I am struggling to find the US requirements for bringing her back. I have China’s export requirements. Thank you!
    RESPONSE
We do not recommend airlines but you will find that almost all of them take very good care of pet animals. If you need the complete instructions and forms for bringing a pet into the US go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info and scroll down to the United States.

  24. We just got in another rescue cat from the local shelter last week. I will never be able to figure how anyone could desert or worse disregard a cat. A portion of individuals believe that cats can fend for themselves since they are predatory animals. They are damn independent and powerful small critters, but once a cat has been domesticated it not only loses its power to live in the wild, but the person who brought the cat in has a duty to care for it. It really saddens me to acknowledge that anyone could abandon a cat. That is why I attempt to help as best I can by taking in rescue cats.

  25. If I am taking my dogs through Thailand en route to Ontario, will they be affected by the Summer Heat Embargo? What is it and how does it work?
    Kerry
    RESPONSE
The summer heat embargo says that if the runway temperature is above 84 degrees at the time of departure of the aircraft then the airline should not board the pet in cargo. Not all airlines follow this rule. In most cases there are only a few hours a day when the embargo is in place although some airports in the US put the embargo on all flight during a 3 month period.

Since I do not know what airline you are flying this is about all that I can tell you. I suggest you visit with the airline as well.

    Jerry

  26. Thanks for the prompt reply Jerry! Unfortunately if I get my dog re-chipped I have to give her either a new rabies shot or a booster. This would mean I would have to redo her titers test which will set me back 3-5 months in travel and I’m scheduled to travel April 1st. So it seems that the scanner is my only option at the moment. I figure I can always get her re-chipped in Sweden.
    RESPONSE
You are correct, if you have al ready started the blood titer process you need to stay with the chip that you have

    Jerry

  27. Hello everyone – I will be traveling with my dog to Sweden in a few weeks. Her paperwork is almost complete but as it turns out, based on my research the 24hr petwatch chip will not be read by European scanners. Has anyone tried the rent a scanner through the program offered by pet travel? Thanks!
    RESPONSE
This is PetTravel.Com You are better off putting in the ISO 15 digit non-encrypted microchip than renting a scanner. It is cheaper and if your pet is separated from you in Europe they can read the ISO chep and get the pet back to you. If you rent a scanner and it is in your pocket that won’t help if the pet winds up in a shelter.
The European ISO microchip is $49.50 – you will spend more on a rental although we would be happy to rent one to you.

  28. Thank you very much Jerry for your prompt reply.
That’s great news. I’ll check with the airlines.
Our cat has the blue pet passport, so we should be fine.

  29. Hi,

we moved to London from New York last summer and had a lot of trouble bringing in our cat. As we started the PET scheme too late (because we did not know before) she had to stay 3 months in France with our family. Then to bring her from Paris, we realized we could not take the EuroStar (what a bummer!) and the plane was about 1500 euros (because from France to the UK, unlike US to France. It costed us $200 to have her travel in the hold with AF from NY to Paris), you have to go through an agent who will book for you on a cargo. We ended up renting a car to take Euro Tunnel!

Now we are going back to NY this summer but will stop for 6 weeks in France and we would like to take our cat back to Paris without having to rent a car! I saw that there is pressure to change the Eurostar policy, but I guess this will take a while. I was wondering if air companies were more flexible from London to Paris (than the other way round) as there’s no quarantine. Thus can we have her in the hold with us if we fly from London to Paris?
Before spending hours on the phone trying to reach someone who could answer my questions, I thought I’ll post a comment on this blog.

    RESONSE
PETS ENTERING THE UK MUST ARRIVE AS MANIFESTED CARGO BUT PETS LEAVING THE UK FOR FRANCE CAN TRAVEL IN THE CABIN. NOT ALL AIRLINES ACCEPT PETS IN THE CABIN BUT SEVERAL DO. YOU WILL NEED EITHER A BLUE PET PASSPORT OR THE FORM eu 998 VETERINARY CERTIFICATE FOR FRANCE.

VISIT http://www.PetTravel.com for all of the information you will need. If you need the EU Annex form, visi https://www.pettravelstore.com and click on Pet Passports.

  30. Hello, my husband and I are moving from South Korea (Seoul) to Boston this April. We are flying Asiana Airlines from Seoul to Tokyo Narita and then transferring to American Airlines for the Tokyo-USA leg of the trip. We are bringing our dog with us as accompanied luggage.

In Japan, we have to transfer from Asiana to AA which means that we have to claim our dog, bring him to the AA ticket counter and recheck him. Though we are not staying in Japan, we will have to “immigrate” into Japan with him just to get to the ticket counter. My question is this: Are we subject to Japan’s quarantine regulations even though we are just in transit?
    RESPONSE
    Transit Instructions
If you simply transit your pet at Narita airport,
you needn’t to submit any documents to us (Animal Quarantine Service).

But your pet must meet the requirement for import from your country to final destination country.

And you have to contact the airline you are going to use about the
    transit procedure at Narita Airport.
Please obey the instructions of the airline.

    Jerry

We have talked to Asiana, AA, the US Embassy in Japan and Japan’s customs office at Tokyo Narita and have gotten about 6 different answers. At one point there was mention of a document that would state we were just in transit, therefore allowing our dog to bypass quarantine, etc. Have you ever heard of this or has anyone else made a similar trip through Japan? We’re getting pretty worried that he will be taken away from us at the airport.

    Thanks for your help!

  31. Well I got a 2 month pitbull and he still haven’t gotten his shots and I’m traveling tomorrow I want to know if his age is right to travel (U.S.A N.Y to Dominican Republic Jet blue Airlines) and if i can’t get the traveling paper of the vet today please help me out I need this answe asap thank you
    RESPONSE
YOU HAVE TWO PROBLEMS. THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC REQUIRES THAT THE PET BE VACCINATED FOR RABIES AT LEAST 21 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. I DOUBT THAT JET BLUE WILL ACCEPT THE PIT BULL AS AIR CARGO SINCE IT IS A SNUB NOSED BREED.

    JERRY

  32. I am moving to Germany from the US with 3 cats and want to have all 3 travel in the cabin with me. My husband and I are willing to take separate flights if needed to keep them out of cargo. Will any of the airlines allow me to carry on 2 cats? I can fit 2 into one carrying case if needed, but I believe the weight will be close to 24 lbs with both cats.

RESPONSE: YOU SHOULD TALK WITH THE AIRLINE BUT THE LIMIT IS GENERALLY ABOUT 15 LBS. THE CATS WOULD HAVE TO BE VERY TINY FOR TWO OF THEM TO FIT IN A CARRIER THAT WILL GO UNDER THE SEAT. SOME AIRLINES ARE A LITTLE EASIER TO DEAL WITH THAN OTHERS AND SOME DO NOT ALLOW PETS IN THE CABIN AT ALL.

IF YOU CAN GET BOTH CATS IN THE SAME CARRIER THEN YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND COULD TRAVEL ON THE SAME FLIGHT AS TWO PASSENGERS CAN BE ON THE SAME FLIGHT WITH PETS IN THE CABIN ASSUMING THE AIRLINES ALLOWS PETS IN THE CABIN.

i AM SURE YOU KNOW THAT THE CATS MUST BE VACCINATED FOR RABIES, HAVE A iso 15 DIGIT NON-ENCRYPTED MICROCHIP IMPLANTED AND EACH CAT MUST HAVE THE eu FORM 998 VETERINARY CERTIFICATE FOR GERMANY

YOU REALLY NEED TO TALK WITH THE AIRLINE OF YOUR CHOICE REGARDING THE WEIGHT ISSUE.

YOU CAN FIND THE UNDER THE SEAT PET CARRIERS AND THE NECESSARY FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAKING PETS IN GERMANY BY GOING TO http://WWW.PETTRAVELSTORE.COM

  33. I currently live in Botswana, Southern Africa. We are retiring to France later this year with our 5 year old dog Millie. I am getting conflictging info on quarantine. I have been assured there will not be any as long as she has had annual rabies, etc, which she has. However a web site i found today makes me think this may not be correct.
Our problem is that Millie is semi-paralysed in back legs and therefore needs more care than the average dog. Otherwise she is perfectly healthy. However, she would not cope with quarantine and I am sure quarantine kennels would not take her anyway. Csn anyone give me any advice. Millie has to come with us!

    RESPONSE
IN ORDER TO AVOID QUARANTINE THE FOLLOWING STEPS MUST BE TAKEN. THE PET MUST BE VACCINATED FOR RABIES AND THEN BE MICRO CHIPPED WITH THE 15 DIGIT NON-ENCRYPTED MICROCHIP AND THEN HAVE A BLOOD SAMPLE DRAWN FOR A BLOOD TITER TEST. THIS TEST MUST BE DONE AT LEAST 90 DAYS BEFORE YOU ENTER FRANCE

IF YOU NEED THE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDING THE NECESSARY FORMS GO TO https://www.pettravelstore.com AND THEN CLICK ON PET PASSPORTS – IMMIGRATION INFO AND SCROLL DOWN TO FRANCE. WE CAN EMAIL THEM TO YOU.

  34. Hi

I want to ship my cat unaccompanied from the UAE to Pakistan. I have bought the relevant forms from petstore and have the appropriate container etc. but was wondering if anyone can give me an ballpark estimate of the cost of the travelling expenses – is it like the price of a human airline ticket, more or less?

    many thanks

RESPONSE – THE AIRLINES GENERALLY CHARGE FROM ONE TO ONE AND A HALF THE LOWEST COACH FARE FOR SHIPPING THE PET. YOUR BEST BET IS TO CALL AN AIRLINE THAT FLIES BETWEEN THE TWO POINTS. CALL THEIR AIR CARGO DEPARTMENT AND NOT THE RESERVATIONS DEPARTMENT. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO QUOTE YOU THE COST AND GIVE YOU THEIR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS.

  36. Hi,
I want to take my beloved dogs ashes to scatter in portugal, are there any laws on regulations i need check out?

    RESPONSE
I am not aware of any laws of Portugal that would prohibit it. However, most airlines will not transport pet remains.

  37. I’m moving from ontario to BC with my puppy and i will be driving through usa because its much faster than driving through canada.(i will be in usa for about 3 days before i cross back into canada)
My puppy will still be under 3 months old at the time of travel, so i was told he will only need proof of up to date shots and a certificate of health from my vet (because he is too young for a rabies vaccination), and a certification showing that i am his legal owner….i want to make absolutely sure that this is EVERY document i need for him, as i dont want to get turned away at the border
And im also wondering about transporting his food…i know the usda regulations are strict in regards to meat products, and his food is chicken and beef…..does it matter if it was manufactured in america? are they going to take his food away?

You will need nothing else to enter the US from Canada. I assume the chicken and beef is dog foot. That should not be a problem either.

Both the US and Canada are very liberal in their pet regulations.

    Have a good trip.

But then CAKAY PACIFICS doesn’t have direct flight to vietnam from LOS ANGELES. so we will change flight for about 1,5 hours at HONGKONG airport . and i just find out from my travel agent that my pet can’t pass security at hong hong airport to go Vietnam because i need a “travel permit” of hongkong country . the international health certificate issued by a Licensed VET in los angeles is not good enough . please tell me if they are right about “travel permit ” required in HONGKONG , we don’t even want to jump on a taxi in hongkong , we just WAIT in the air port for about 1,5 hours to tranfer to another flight , thats all . whats an unneccesary procedure to get permit . please let me know if me and my dog will make it to vietnam without this hassle .
    RESPONSE
Hong Kong requires that you first obtain an Import Permit (Transit Permit) even though you are not actually entering the country.

If you go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info you can scroll down to Hong Kong and order the package of forms and instructions for that country. Since you are only transiting there is more information in the package than you need but the import application is a part of that package of materials.

Now the problem I’m having is I’ve spent more money trying to get the dogs here to U.S than I have for the dogs. I’ve paid fly insurance fees, for dogs (if ther is a such thing) fees for electiric kennel crate, and some type of vetnarrian quaritine, I’m not sure if I’m being scamed or not there now asking for 90 dollars for two days because of the feeding for the dogs. At this point I don’t know what to do, I don’t have the dogs nor my money that they gauranteed me back upon arrival of the dogs. Can you help me with ant advice at all ?

RESPONSE: This is a scam. I am afraid you have lost your money

  41. hi my husband and i want to travel to alicante end of september 2010 for 6 months and want to take our mini dachshud with us he is 4 months now and microchipped what are the requirements and is there an airline that will take him from the irish republic also how soon should i need to vaxcinate him for rabies

    RESPONSE
Almost all airlines except RyanAir accept pets either in the cabin if they are small enough or as checked baggage. Your pet should be vaccinated for rabies at least 21 days prior to travel. You will either need the EU form 998 for Spain or you can have your veterinarian issue what is called a Blue Pet Passport. If you are planning to return to Ireland you must have a blood titre test performed at least six months prior to the return date.

For the complete rules and necessary forms for taking a pet into Spain or back into Ireland go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info

  43. This is a wonderful site that has been very helpful 🙂

My boyfriend and I are moving from South Korea to Boston in March and we need help finding the best flight option for our 15 lb. chihuahua/pug mix. All of his travel/health paperwork is in order and he’s comfortable in his crate, but we’re concerned about flight times. A direct flight is not an option. It looks like a flight to Tokyo and then direct to Boston isn’t even an option, due to time restrictions for pets in cargo.

Would it be too stressful for him to fly 11 hours to California and then continue on a 6 hour flight to Boston, all in one travel day? Our only other option is a flight via Tokyo and Detroit. That’s an extra stop and possibly winter temperatures in Detroit. Can you give us any recommendations?

Thank you so much for any help you can give us!!

RESPONSE: Korea to Boston is too long in my opinion. Pets regularly make the trip from Korea to California but that is plenty long enough for a pet to be in the crate in cargo. I would suggest breaking your trip in California trying to get a flight with a long enough layover you can take it for a walk, give it food and water. Even overnight would be best but that would probably increase your air far.

Depending on the height of your pet it might be able to fly from California to Boston with you in the cabin of the aircraft.

  44. Sorry I mis-submitted.
    Last sentence is this:

I think “the quarantine office” in Cairo Apt. must do it for us, but I have not found the office yet.

    Regards,

RESPONSE: You will not need the export certificate until you are ready to leave the country. I am sure that the immigration officer on arrival will be able to direct you.

  45. Thanks Jerry, I and my cat detail is as follows:

-I and my cat had started traveling from Japan where we are living in on Jan. 11, 2010.
-I’m now traveling Egypt and going to fly to Italy from Cairo Apt. tomorrow.
    -My cat is microchipped. (a)
-My cat is vaccinated against rabies and had the test done by EU approved lab. (b)
    -I have official documents certificating (a) & (b).

So all I required for departure from Egypt will be a health certificate isseud by Egyptian government. I think “the quarantine office” in Cairo Apt. must do it for us…

    ref: https://www.pettravel.com/immigration/egypt.cfm

    RESPONSE
As we understand the procedure you will present a certificate of good health just before departure and receive an export permit for the pet.

    Regards,

  46. Hello, I need quick help now!

According to Egypt information on pettravel.com, I must take my cat to “the quarantine office” at the Cairo airport where they will issue a new health certificate and permit to take the pet out from Egypt.

Although my flight is tomorrow, unfortunately, I have not found the office yet.
Does anyone knows where it is?

    RESPONSE
I assume you have your veterinary certificate. You will pass through immigration control on arrival and show them the pets papers – they will be able to direct you to the place where you will get your export permit

    Regards,

  47. I have ordered the forms from pet travel. My cat is coming to Korea from Egypt alone. However, I am running into problems with the airline that states I need an import permit for her. Does anyone know anything about this? Where do I get this and do I really need it? Thanks

    RESPONSE
Up until this time Korea did not require an import permit for personal pets. Only if the pets were going in un-accompanied or if there were a large number of pets.

I do not think that rule has changed but I will check and get back to you.

  49. We are moving from Vancouver Island British Columbia) to China (Rizhao)and want to take our 5 lb yorkie with us in the cabin(she would not survive cargo). Can you advise 1. what airline to use, 2. should we get a pet transporter service to help us..please recommend one). 3. Best entry point for least quaranteen period but close to Rizhao. 4. Any chance they will wave the quaranteen if I keep her in house quaranteen? Any other information would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your help. Diane McKendrick

RESPONSE: We do not recommend airlines – it is a very long flight and sometimes it is difficult to find one that will accept the pet in the cabin for the duration of the flight. You will need to call a few or break your flight into two segments.

The two entry points are Shanghai and Bejing.

I do not think you need a pet transport agent here but we do suggest you retain one in China as they can generally clear the pet through customs very quickly with no quarantine.

If you go to http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info scroll down to China. the package of information contains the complete instructions and the necessary forms and the contact information for the agent in China whose name is Holly.

Once you have received the information from us you may have additional questions and we will be glad to answer them.

  50. we are planning to travel from turkey to france with 2 dogs, both have had the required blood test and are chipped,we will also have the relevant forms for them to leave turkey.we know they can’t leave turkey until 90days after the blood test but cannot find out the length of time after the 90days that the results will be valid for.Do we need import papers to take them into france apart from the documents we already have?

    RESPONSE
the blood titre test is valid forevr as long as you keep the pets vaccinations current. With what you have you only now need the EU form 998 Veterinary certificate for France to be completed by a licensed veterinarian.

If you need the certificate it is available at http://www.pettravelstore.com and then click on Pet Passports – Immigration Info
